Specifically, legislation impacting surprise medical bills, drug pricing, Medicaid DSH, site neutral payment, as well as others that become timely. Forensic Accounting in Health Care:The Business TSA: Protecting Your Organization Through Vendor Credentialing (Credits: 1.0 AA)
10:00am-10:50am

Joseph M. Palmar, CPA, CFE, CFF
Chief Executive Officer / Palmar Forensics
Coral Gables, FL

We are all frustrated, but appreciate the TSA process at our airports. However, who among us doesn't feel safer because of it or would fly without the process? Screening is critical in business as well. We do background checks on employees before we hire them, but what do you know about the vendors we pay, who walk the halls of our healthcare systems and interact with our patients? Are they on a sanctions list, are they criminals, do they have undisclosed relationships that result in conflicts of interest, are they shell companies? During this session we will discuss best practices and what can happen if you don't know you vendors. Buyer beware!

Innovative Cloud-Based Solutions for Health Care Organizations (Credits: 1.0 TB)
10:50am-11:40am

Dale Tuttle
Partner / WithumSmith+Brown
Bethesda, MD

In this session we will explore two innovative solutions healthcare organizations should consider. The first is really a platform innovation; Microsoft has created a bundled solution called (perhaps confusingly) Microsoft 365. It bundles security applications together with your Office 365 subscriptions. Moreover, it includes Windows 10 for your laptops and other computing devices. Together, you can now secure all your devices, including phones, with a common set of tools. Security and Compliance, along with Privacy, is perhaps the most important consideration for healthcare organizations.  Because such a large number of healthcare organizations are already using Microsoft Tools, it is important to know what these bundled tools can do.  Secondly, we will look at the new-breed of process automation tools that can move data and content from one disparate system to another when no Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) exist.  Known as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), these tools mimic human activities to automate common manual processes.  These tools can significantly reduce the time it takes to move data between systems, reduce errors, and allow you to redeploy your human capital to more productive tasks.

Independent physicians and physician practices are facing several new challenges with regard to the practice of medicine as follows:
*Should they remain independent and, if so, how will they compete for patients, reimbursement dollars and professional, clinical and administrative staff?
*Should they consider becoming part of something larger? Examples are hospital or health system employees; merging into a larger specialty or multi-specialty group; forming one's own larger group of specialties.
*Consistent with same, consider one's own personal and financial professional practice exit strategy.
There are many variations and we will explore as many as possible during the presentation.
